能为屏幕增加色域显示范围的量子点技术,过往都是以增建机构方式附加于 LCD 面板,采用 QDEF 量子点薄膜贴附会增加面板厚度,也会使背光利用率下降。Nanosys 与日本 DIC 合作,将量子点以喷墨印刷方式取代 RGB 滤光片,开创新型态应用。

目前 LCD 面板结合量子点技术增加显色色域范围,大致上能分为两种技术,第一种就是采用 QDEF 量子点薄膜,贴附在整个液晶面板导光膜的上方、彩色滤光片的下方。第二种则是与背光系统结合,无论是整合在 LED 封装中,或是在侧边背光与面板之间加入一条含有量子点的长条机构。量子点薄膜有着增加面板厚度以及价格高昂的问题(面积大,需要更多的量子点),而放入侧边背光模组则有温度过高导致量子点失效的情况。

为解决上述问题,各家量子点制造商均朝向量子点滤光片的方向迈进,有望同时解决以上 2 种困境。量子点技术与产品提供者 Nanosys 与日本化学厂商 DIC 合作,将量子点以喷墨印刷方式制成薄膜,替代原本液晶面板的彩色滤光片,目前制造出来的次像素尺寸约为 100×300(μm),换算后大约是 50 寸 UHD 电视大小。

为了将量子点整合进入 DIC 的喷墨印刷工艺,必须克服无镉量子点该如何相容 DIC 喷墨材料、能被喷头喷出,以及承受油墨 UV 紫外线或是温度固化等难题。透过替代原始 LCD 面板的彩色滤光片,Nanosys 指出可有效将亮度提升 300%,提升能源效率的同时也拥有更广的显色色域范围。
