In addition to a high-efficiency buck converter that provides a maximum conversion efficiency of 95%, most protection functions required by the system are included, making it possible to significantly reduce the development time, decrease size, and simplify system design

  The BD71837MWV leverages ROHM’s industry-leading analog power technology to achieve the ideal power supply system for driving i.MX 8M processors. Convenience, ease of use, and a rich user experience continue to drive the demand for more powerful SoC (System on Chip) solutions. However, high-performance applications processing graphics, video and audio often place conflicting demands on power supply and thermal design, calling for higher power in a smaller footprint along with high peak efficiency yet low standby power consumption (the latter driven by regulations as well as use cases such as always-on devices with voice interface).

  The BD71837MWV was designed to address these demands while also achieving the lowest system bill of materials for power management. In addition, the compact form factor reduces the number of external components, decreasing PCB area by 45% (in the case of adopting a Type-3 one-sided PCB). Thanks to software programmability and one-time programmability (OTP), ROHM’s PMIC can be easily adapted for a wide variety of system designs.

  1.All-in-one power solution optimized for i.MX 8M processors

  The power supply circuit of the BD71837MWV, designed specifically for the power supply system of the i.MX 8M processor family, integrates an 8 buck converters, 7 LDOs, and control logic that allows it to supply power not only to the processor, but the required DDR memory as well – all from a single chip. A 1.8V/3.3V power switch for SDXC cards is also built in, along with a 32.768kHz crystal oscillator buffer and multiple protection circuits such as output short-circuit, output over-voltage/current, and thermal shutdown. Buck conversion efficiency from 83 to 95% is achieved for 0.7V to 3.3V output, and the wide input voltage range from 2.7V to 5.5V supports a variety of power sources, from batteries to USB, making them ideal for i.MX 8M applications.

  In addition, power sequencing, SoC-PMIC control signaling, and power state transitions are automatically handled by hardware control logic. The BD71837MWV supports all i.MX 8M low-power states such as SNVS and SUSPEND, consuming only 30?A in the SNVS state and 137?A at IDLE with all but two power rails on. And communication with the host processor is performed via I2C, enabling 100/400kHz and 1MHz operation.

  The BD71837MWV integrates a sequencer compatible with power modes supported by i.MX 8M processors (RUN, IDLE, SUSPEND, SNVS, OFF) to provide greater application design flexibility. Furthermore, the power mode transition conditions, protection function enable/disable, and ON/OFF control and voltage for each power supply can be customized through the I2C interface and OTP (One Time Programmable ROM) for the memory type and functions required by the system, making it possible to achieve optimum performance based on application needs.

  The BD71837MWV operation has been verified with the i.MX 8M SoC, shortening development time and enabling timely product release. ROHM’s New Energy-Saving DC-DC Converter ICs Offered in the TSOT23 Package
  ROHM has developed four new compact DC-DC step-down converter ICs suitable for consumer and industrial applications, including refrigerators, washing machines, PLCs, and inverters. ROHM is expanding the lineup which includes the BD9E203FP4-Z, a 2A buck converter with switching frequency of 350kHz.  In recent years, increasing application functionality in consumer devices and industrial equipment is driving the demand to minimize board space, resulting in a rise in the adoption rate of compact DC-DC converter ICs.  Furthermore, as reducing standby power consumption is becoming a significant challenge, there is a growing need for DC-DC converter ICs to deliver higher efficiency during light load (low power) conditions. To meet these demands, ROHM developed products that achieve higher efficiency in an even smaller package than existing SOP-J8 (JEDEC standard: SOIC8 equivalent) products.  The new converter ICs deliver an output current of 1A to 3A in the compact TSOT23 package (2.8mm × 2.9mm). This reduces component area by up to 72% compared to the general SOP-J8 package (4.9mm × 6.0mm), contributing to the miniaturization of power supply blocks. On top, adopting a flip chip on lead frame TSOT23 package design enables high-efficiency operation by eliminating bond wire resistance.  The BD9E105FP4-Z, BD9E202FP4-Z, and BD9E304FP4-LBZ also utilize a COT control mode during light load operation. As a result, efficiency during light load operation is improved over standard products, making them ideal for applications requiring low standby power consumption. TerminologyCOT (Constant ON Time) Control Method  A feedback circuit control method for stabilizing the output voltage. When the feedback voltage drops below the reference voltage, the switching element turns ON, then automatically turns OFF after a fixed time has elapsed. This enables stable output to be efficiently obtained at light loads.  Spurious  Unnecessary electromagnetic waves that deviate from the originally required predetermined frequency.  Overshoot Prevention Function  If the output current of the power supply IC exceeds the expected value, the output is shut down by the OCP (overcurrent protection) function. When recovering from a shutdown, a momentary overshoot (excessive output voltage) occurs, causing a delay in recovery, so it is necessary to expedite recovery and suppress overshoot.  ESD (Electrostatic Discharge)  Static electricity (surge) is generated when electrically charged objects come into contact with each other. This static electricity (surge) may cause circuits and equipment to malfunction or destruction. ROHM Develops a New Op Amp that Minimizes Current Consumption
  ROHM has developed a linear operational amplifier (op amp) - LMR1901YG-M - featuring the lowest* current consumption in the industry. This makes it ideal for amplifying sensor signals used to detect and measure temperature, flow rate, gas concentration, and other parameters in applications powered by internal sources (i.e. batteries).  In recent years, advanced control has been in increasing demand for various applications in consumer and industrial electronics. Therefore, there is an increasing need for accurate sensing of parameters relevant to the application - such as, temperature, humidity, vibration, pressure, and flow rate. Op amps whose main function is to amplify sensor signals for subsequent detection and/or analog-to-digital conversion, is a crucial component in the signal chain - greatly affecting both accuracy and power consumption. ROHM is developing op amps that satisfy the dual need for high accuracy and low current consumption. By further refining the circuit design based on original Nano Energy™ technology, ROHM is now able to offer an op amp that delivers the lowest current consumption on the market.  The LMR1901YG-M leverages original ultra-low power technology that thoroughly suppresses current increase caused by temperature and voltage changes to reduce current consumption to just 160nA (Typ.) - approximately 38% lower than that of general low power op amps. This not only extends the life of applications powered by internal batteries like electronic shelf labels, but also contributes to longer operating times for smartphones and other devices equipped with rechargeable batteries. At the same time, this low current consumption does not change over the temperature range of -40°C to +105°C - allowing stable low-power operation, even in environments where external temperatures fluctuate, including fire alarms and environmental sensors.  Other performance enhancements include 45% reduction of input offset voltage to just 0.55mV (Max. Ta=25°C) over general low-current op amps while a maximum input offset voltage temperature drift of 7V/°C is guaranteed. This enabling high accuracy amplification of sensor signals. Capable of operating from 1.7V to 5.5V supply voltage and offering rail-to-rail input/output, LMR1901YG-M is suitable for a wide variety of applications in the industrial equipment and consumer markets. ROHM’s new op amp also complies with the automotive reliability standard AEC-Q100 - ensuring stable operation even under harsh conditions such as vehicle cabins without compromising functionality. This system was established in 2017 to recognize companies that are proactive in their efforts to implement sports to improve the health of their employees, not only through sports competitions but also by providing exercise opportunities such as exercise and stretching during the morning and lunch breaks, encouraging the use of stairs, walking, and commuting by bicycle, and holding standing meetings. Such companies are certified as Sports Yell Company.
