重复下单危机浮现,LED元件价格涨势划上终止符

尽管2017年以来LED照明市场需求规模成长,上游LED元件呈现供不应求情况,部分产品陆续调涨报价,然大陆LED业者指出,随着2017年上半LED供应链持续疯狂拉货,加上大陆LED厂新增晶粒产能逐渐开出,近期重复下单危机已隐然浮现,下游客户拉货动能开始趋缓,业者预期上游LED元件价格涨势恐已近尾声,后续是否面临供需反转仍有待观察。

大陆LED业者表示,从整体需求来看,2017年LED照明市场规模仍持续增长,由于2016年LED晶粒新增产能有限,加上其他关键原材料价格相继上涨,LED照明客户为避免成本提高,在2017年上半到处下单抢货,如今LED照明市场库存水位升高,加上供需吃紧现象已获得改善,预计这一波上游LED元件涨价走势将划下终止符。

以美国LED照明市场为例,往年照明出货旺季约落在第2及第4季,而第3季正值供应链向下游通路铺货,以准备第4季欧美市场销售旺季需求,在终端市场买气尚未完全明朗之前,将影响近期LED照明拉货,下游客户需求明显降温。

LED晶粒厂晶电指出,业界在第2季提前备货需求强劲,LED照明订单热络,加速蓝光LED稼动率进入满载,订单需求明显超过产能供应,然观察第3季状况,近期部分LED照明产品开始铺货至下游通路,整体拉货需求可能出现停顿,仅有近期热销的LED灯丝灯、高效率灯管等需求仍有大幅成长。

尽管LED照明部分产品进入调整期,但第3季包括TV及NB背光、手机闪光灯、显示屏等其他应用需求都将继续增加,业者预期LED背光及消费性电子产品等需求,将可望递补LED照明下滑幅度,加上其他LED照明客户仍持续出货,对于第3季市况并不看淡,整体需求将不悲观。

至于蓝光LED生产线是否能维持满载,需要观察其他应用市场能否顺利出货,毕竟部分客户的预估值可能较偏向乐观,不过,四元LED出货比重可望提高,以台厂出货的产品组合来看,第3季将有所改善。

晶电总经理周铭俊先前指出,由于订单明显回温,蓝光LED生产线产能从3~4月已进入满载水位,尽管上游晶粒呈现供不应求的热络景象,但内部亦密切观察重复下单状况,并预估市场供需转折的关键期将会落在第3季。

业界认为近期虽有部分LED新增产能开出,然因新增机台设备并非一次到位,晶粒厂仍需要进行装机及调机,预料第3季新增产能的冲击有限,但随着第4季进入传统淡季,LED照明出货近尾声,LED背光拉货需求降低,届时整体产能供需反转的风险将提高。

It is also said that Samsung may mass-produce ultra-large Micro LED TVs, driving more manufacturers to invest in Mini LED R&D. According to the latest report of LEDinside, a division of TrendForce, the market value of Micro LED and Mini LED products is estimated at US$1.38 billion by 2022.New technologies will accelerate the advancement of Micro LED“Micro LED still faces many technical bottlenecks, including epitaxial wafer/chip, transfer, full color, driver IC, backplane and inspection/repair technology”, says Roger Chu, the Research Director of LEDinside. Transfer technology used to be the biggest bottleneck, but new transfer solutions have been emerging, such as Pick & Place transfer, fluid assembly, laser transfer, and roller transfer. It is expected that there will be more cost-competitive solutions in the future, which may accelerate the advancement of Micro LED.LEDinside notes that Micro LED technology is most likely adopted to display products with special requirements, especially those beyond the capabilities of LCD and OLED displays. LEDinside expects that Micro LED would be gradually applied to AR micro projections which require high brightness, automotive HUD projection applications, and ultra-large digital display in the near future. LEDinside estimates that the market value of Micro LED products will reach US$694 million by 2022.Mini LED expects growing demand in high-end backlight marketConsidering existing technical barriers for Micro LED technology, manufacturers tend to launch Mini LED backlight solutions this year, hoping to boost the demand. Displays using Mini LED backlight may appear in the market in the second half of 2018, says LEDinside, and the market value of Mini LED products is expected to reach US$689 million by 2022.Different from conventional LED backlight, Mini LED chips are smaller in size. Coupled with direct type LED backlight and local dimming, the number of LED chips used will grow at multiples. Therefore, Mini LED will become a key application that drives the demand for LED chips.However, the costs of Mini LED backlight remain too high for mainstream displays, while problems of heat dissipation and power consumption have not been solved yet. Therefore, Mini LED may cut into the market through high-end consumer products like gaming notebook, gaming monitors, monitor with special applications, as well as niche products like high-end TV with high resolution, high contrast and high color saturation. These products put more focus on specifications than on competitive prices, thus will become the main battlefield for vendors who aim to achieve technology differentiation through Mini LED backlight technology.

The efficiency of LEDs compared to traditional incandescent and fluorescent lighting is one of the most highly touted benefits of the technology. According to a new report by IHS Markit, the use of LEDs to light buildings and outdoor spaces reduced the total carbon dioxide emissions of lighting by some 570 million tons in 2017. This reduction, roughly equivalent to 162 coal-fired power plants, enabled LED component and lighting companies to reduce the global carbon footprint by about 1.5 percent this year, IHS Markit(London) estimates. Jamie Fox, a principal analyst for the market research house's lighting and LED group, believes LEDs have enabled LED component and lighting companies to transform their industry. These companies, he said, "are fighting climate change much more effectively than other industries, and they should be given credit for it." Jamie Fox Fox added: "Unlike in other industry sectors, workers at LED companies can honestly say that by selling more of their products, they are helping to reduce global warming." LED lighting uses an average of about 40 percent less power than fluorescent  and 80 percent less than incandescents to produce the same amount of light, according to Fox. He expects the impact of LEDs on the global carbon footprint to become more pronounced as more LEDs are installed around the world. Based on IHS' analysis of market share data for LED component suppliers, Nichia Corp., a Japanese supplier of LEDs, can saved the most carbon overall. The firm accounted for about 10 percent of all carbon dioxide reduced through the use of LEDs in 2017, or roughly 57 million tons, according to IHS. Cree followed Nichia with 8 percent, while Lumileds, Seoul Semiconductor, MLS, Samsung and LG Innotek each have a share in the range of 4 percent to 7 percent, according to IHS.
